Disease carrying mosquitoes are a major problem. Several million people die globally each year as a result of the diseases passed on to them by these insects. Mosquitoes are the world's deadliest animals!

Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya are all viral diseases spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. While children, the elderly, and pregnant women are at the greatest risk, anyone can be infected with a single bite from a disease-bearing mosquito. These diseases did not originate in the Caribbean, but via international travel and commerce all three are now major problems in the Central, South and Caribbean Americas. Millions of people have been sickened, thousands killed or severely injured, and the economic burden is in the billions in terms of lost wages and diminished tourism. Local governments are aware of the problem but do not have the resources to fight the deadly mosquitoes by themselves. They need your help!
Our Mission
SCID is a Federally-recognized 501(c)3 charitable foundation which exists for one reason: to stop the spread of insect-borne diseases in the Caribbean.  This can be done with funding existing technology, helping develop new strategies, and improving public awareness and diagnosis at the local level.  We partner with Federal and local governments in the Caribbean with the goal of eradicating disease-causing mosquitoes that harm locals and tourists alike.

Mosquitoes live almost everywhere. They have thrived as a species, but their success comes at our cost. It is time for a change.

To help end Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, Yellow Fever and other mosquito-borne disease requires drastic reduction of insect populations and/or measures which change the ecology or behavior of the mosquitoes. These are very adaptable, fast-breeding creatures and a strong partnership between the public and private sectors is necessary for success.
While you can volunteer with us directly, even traveling to provide local assistance in any number of locations, there's much you can do on your own.
